The World Cup returns in 2026 with a historic new format. For the first time, 48 nations will compete across the tournament, which runs from 11 June 2026 to 28 June 2026. The expanded field adds a new layer of unpredictability to the competition, as more teams than ever before chase football’s ultimate prize. The group stage will feature 16 groups of three teams each, with the top two from every group advancing to a knockout round that promises high drama from the very first match.
